BENEFITS OF WRITING FOR HOUGHTON & MACKAY
Writers who wish to build their online presence may choose to write for Houghton & Mackay. Whilst the scope of articles and subjects covered assists in optimizing their presence online, together with positive audience exposure.
Our objective is to develop the quality and depth of our prose, as opposed to gathering writers, as many other writer websites do. As a result, writers for Houghton & Mackay benefit from being part of a focused, developing project.
We know it is often very hard for the beginner or novice writer to access large mainstream publications as these companies often want experienced, well-known writers in order to sell copy. At the other end of the spectrum, they struggle against many thousands of writers all competing for "reads" or "likes" on other websites.
With Houghton & Mackay, the focus is the subjects of Lifestyle, Culture and Wealth, we want the avant-garde, the unique, attracting new ideas, new talent.
The audience and the writers will therefore remain two very separate entities. With a positive audience to writer ratio, the writer gains far more positive exposure. At present this ratio is approximately 25,000 - 1.
FREELANCE PAYMENTS
If a fee has been agreed, these are agreed mutually, prior to the writer submitting their article(s) to the publication. All fees will be paid by Paypal (ensure your country is listed) or BACS (UK, Europe, United States and Canada, Japan, Australia, Ireland only). Again, these can be discussed when you get in touch. Please ensure you can accept payment through one of these methods before taking part.
The standard fee paid per article is currently £20 (or equivalent), with a further £5 -10 spent on advertising or "boosting" your article online with social media networks(s).

ALGORITHMS, SHARES & LIKES
The "reach" of any article, links and profile are directly governed and influenced by the number of and type of activity surrounding them. To capitalize on further exposure, articles may be shared wherever they land on ours/yours own network pages. Each activity, such as a share or like has the potential to trigger any algorithm to show them to a wider range and number of people online. The more it triggers, the more relevant the item will appear to crawling software and thus show higher in search rankings, resulting in a potential higher traffic score.
